Twilight Seminar & Book Launch
“Reading – more than barking at print. Helping your students with reading”
Tuesday, 13 May 2008
Jean Searle & Ann Kelly In this workshop we will be sharing ideas on how to assist your students with reading. Participants will be engaged in a range of reading activities which may be undertaken with students at different NRS levels. We will discuss a number of reading theories from ‘information processing’ and ‘phonics’ to an ‘interactive’ model of reading. We will demonstrate a way of analysing your students' reading ability and show how you can draw upon the different theories to meet your students’ needs. We will also focus on reading for various purposes and include ways of increasing learners’ confidence with reading. Speakers: Jean Searle & Ann Kelly Jean and Ann have been working in the adult literacy field for a very long time! They both have a background in teaching adult literacy in TAFE as well as at university. Ann is a lecturer at Griffith University, while Jean now holds an adjunct position at Griffith. Book Launch We invite you to join us at the launching of an ESL, EFL and literacy package of reading materials on the topic Australian Government by Hazel Davidson and Dorothy Court.
