Twilight Seminar

CHANGING FACES of Adult Literacy, Numeracy and ESOL

7 March 2005

This seminar will focus on the findings from the Economic and Social Research Council,UK funded project entitled "Changing faces of Adult Literacy, Numeracy and ESOL", conducted by Professor Mary Hamilton, Dr Yvonne Hillier and Sam Parsons. The project involved documenting the history of adult literacy in the UK, examining policy documents and media representations of literacy and interviewing key practitioners and policy makers. The seminar will focus on the key issues emerging from the study, including the change forces that have shaped the field, the professionalisation of the workforce and associated tensions involved in accreditation for practitioners and for learners, many of which will be familiar to us here.
